Established in 2024, Rebuilding Together Southern Tier (RTST) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Broome County, NY. Focused on homeowner-occupied rehabilitation*.

What does that mean?
With an aging housing stock and an aging population, we aim to increase assistance for homeowner-occupied rehab, helping homeowners keep their homes safe and affordable.

*Homeowner-occupied rehab is sometimes called “critical repair” or “housing preservation”.

Roof Repair Program
Given that the highest need in Broome County is roof repairs, RTST’s current programming focuses on repairing roofs and associated damage for income-qualified homeowners.

In 2025, we completed 5 roof projects, including one mold remediation. The average cost of repairs was $15,490. We were able to complete these projects through an $80,000 grant from the Rebuilding Together and funding from Lowe’s. Other funding to help us operate was provided by United Way of Broome County and the Community Foundation of South Central New York.

In 2026, we are continuing this program with funding from the Community Foundation of South Central New York and United Way of Broome County. We recently established a partnership with Metro Interfaith Housing Management Corporation to assist with intakes and inquiries.
